Before COVID-19 hit, I was able to make my way to Potsdam’s AA Kingston Middle School and record some students. Dan Cook, the Principal, met with me well in advance to discuss what the project was, and what I would do. He was quite familiar with NCPR, so I knew he would be great to have helping out.
The students vary in age- some in 5th grade, others in 8th; yet they all had a hugepassion for the books they wanted to talk about. What really stood out for me was that an overwhelming number of these students talked about books from the past that stuck with them. More often than not, they read the book repeatedly as time has passed.
As I left, I told an employee in the school library that I wanted to repeat middle school and move to Potsdam. I think I might be aged out, but the impression these students had on me was pretty outstanding.
Thanks for having me, Potsdam!
