With this, people are exploring different ways on how to address the root of their sleep problem. And one of the emerging suggestions is through the help of cannabidiol, or CBD.

CBD is one of the strains of cannabinoids of Cannabis sativa, or cannabis. CBD comes from hemp, some kin of cannabis. Our bodies actually have cannabinoids too, which is responsible for maintaining our body’s balanced state.

Again, it still boils down to knowing the root cause of insomnia and going from there. CBD has a lot of benefits for the body and even though it isn’t the main cure doesn’t mean it cannot help either.
CBD generally promotes calm by regulating our endocannabinoid system. It relaxes our bodies, which speeds up our recovery process. With this, it is likely that we get into sleep easily which in turn, stimulates our bodies to heal faster.
How to take CBD to promote sleep?
CBD comes in many forms, which can help people struggling with sleep in whichever lifestyle he has. It comes in the following products:

- Capsules or pills
- Tinctures and oil
- Topicals like creams, balms, and lotions
Dosing in CBD is quite tricky; it is best to check the label for the recommendations. The safest is to take the smallest dose, especially when you are just starting, then gradually go your way up depending on how your body reacts to it.
For improving sleep, it is best to take CBD before bedtime. It may take a while to experience effects depending on which form you take. Different CBD forms have different absorption rates, which is also affected by our body composition, weight, and other external factors. So, manage your expectations and schedules well.
I personally recommend to take it as you unwind and not when you are in the middle of doing something or when you need to travel.
Smoking CBD vape may give out the fastest effect since it goes directly to our bloodstream and lungs. However, you might be at risk of respiratory problems. The Washington State Department even ordered the ban on using e-cigarettes because of these risks.
Others prefer topicals like balms that are infused with sleep-inducing and calming ingredients such as chamomile and lavender. If you prefer capsules, it is best to take your dose before bedtime, in about an hour before at most.
Other sleep tips
I don’t recommend relying solely on CBD when it comes to curing your sleep problems. As I mentioned, there is a host of other factors that can also indirectly affect our rest, which we need to address as well.
As much as possible, make your bedroom sacred. Make it conducive to sleep by regulating its temperature, using clean and comfortable beddings, and limiting your activities inside it.
Keep a regular sleeping schedule and stick to it. Make sure that you refrain from eating large meals an hour before bedtime.
CBD is just one of the many supplements that can help us in having a restful sleep despite our conditions. I do not recommend self-medicating, and it is best to consult with your physician especially when you aren’t diagnosed with anything yet.
